City Council drags tax defaulters to court

DODOMA: DODOMA City Council has instituted legal proceedings at the Makole Primary Court against business owners for failing to pay billboard taxes, business licence fees and service levies.
Speaking to journalists, City Legal Officer, Mr Godfrey Ngazi, urged business owners to comply with tax obligations to enable the council to implement development projects and deliver essential services.
“Any business owner who fails to meet tax obligations will be held legally accountable,” Mr Ngazi warned.
Business Officer for Zone One, Ms Salmin Ally, said defaulters who ignored payment of licences, service levies and billboard taxes have already appeared before the Makole Primary Court.

“Hearings have started. Some business owners have paid their dues, while those who have neither appeared nor paid are still being traced,” she said.
She urged all traders to settle their taxes promptly to avoid legal actions and unnecessary inconveniences.
Officers from Zones One and Two have been conducting inspections across various wards to enforce compliance and remind business owners to pay tax and levies on time.
