China’s GSI; an ideal path to world peace

AS it is well known, peace is the common aspiration shared by people of all countries. The development of the world economy and human development are more influenced by stability, peace and security.

However, until now the world is still in the dark, as the certainty of peace, stability and security is still a challenge. Wars, terrorism, political unrest, trade war and economic sanctions have become common practices in the world.

Cognizant of the multiple security challenges facing the world, President Xi Jinping proposed the Global Security Initiative (GSI), an arrangement that pursues the longterm objective of building a peaceful community, advocating for a new path to security while prioritising dialogue over confrontation, partnership over alliance and win-win over zero-sum.

The GSI requires all countries to stay committed to the vision of common, comprehensive, cooperative and sustainable security.

It emphasises on countries to respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of each other, abiding by the purposes and principles of the UN Charter, taking the legitimate security concerns of all countries seriously, peacefully resolving differences and disputes between countries through dialogue and consultation and maintaining security in both traditional and non-traditional domains.

It is important to note that after the destruction caused by the Second World War, the victorious nations established an international body – the United Nations- with the aim of protecting and preventing wars and fights from happening again.

However, despite the establishment of the body, some founding member countries have been on the front line in instigating wars and inciting chaos, violating the set UN goals.

At inception in 1945 the United Nations member countries reached agreements to do all that they had in their capacity to achieve world peace under the UN vision which is ‘World Peace’.

They set the vision to achieve a world peace that is not just the ‘absence of wars’ but total peace where people live in loving harmony within individual selves, with other people, environment, the surroundings and resources. With 79 years down the line since 1945 to- to-date, the world is still experiencing wars and trade wars.

Seventy nine years later, the world is still watching some nations instigating civil wars in other countries. Some countries resort to conspire with other war actors to bully other nations and sometime they do so just to show their military superiority.

Historically, countries have not only ruled other countries with bullets and bombs, but have also done so with sanctions to weaken their economies. Some nations, some of which are UN permanent members, have engaged in unilateral wars that have damaged the world economy and destabilised world peace.

Because of these wars the whole world has found itself in darkness, full of fear of inhuman killings and bullying.

In response to the current international dynamics, the GSI offers feasible pathways to resolving disputes and differences, managing risks and crises and addressing global security issues and to help countries and people in wars and conflicts find peaceful solutions.

For example, since the Ukraine crisis unfolded, China released its position on the settlement of the conflict, conducted active shuttle diplomacy and never given up on its efforts to promote talks for peace.

When conflict broke out in northern Myanmar, China mediated and facilitated multiple rounds of peace talks in Kunning, Yunnan Province between relevant parties, which eventually led to a number of important agreements including a formal ceasefire, playing a crucial role in easing the situation in northern Myanmar and contributing to regional peace and stability.

Furthermore, China has also spearheaded and still spearheading reconciliation efforts in the Middle East It is undisputable fact that, the world we live in is unpredictable, dangerous and unsafe.

It is unfortunate that leaders who stand up against some few war mongering nations have been finding their nations being subjected to economic sanctions, trade wars and or technology isolation. In response to mounting global threats, China is actively collaborating with other nations through counterterrorism, biotechnology, cyber security, food security and climate change.

Additionally, China’s deployment of over 50,000 UN peacekeeping personnel and its provision of medical aid to over 290 million patients through international medical missions highlights its significant contributions to global peace and humanitarian efforts.

China’s proposed GSI is crucial for world peace. “Peace can only be obtained when people willingly and sincerely share the riches of their inner spirits and talents”.

Unfortunately some countries have formed blocks, military alliances and are less willing to discuss peace. As a result, the world security situation is getting worse and international conflicts are increasing. It should be noted that, the United Nations’ documents indicate that the UN advocates for ‘world peace’.

However, ‘‘the biggest economic club’’ has pushed for the one sided ‘new world economic order’ while the peaceful loving nations led by China advocate for ‘new world order’ with a different approach to a sustainable peaceful world puts people first.

It is undisputable fact that the world is still in the dark ages whereby groups of people feel superior to others. This is the time when the world needs to unite to intervene and facilitate willing and trusting discussions, negotiations, positive exchanges and cooperate together in finding solutions to internal, regional and international conflicts.

We need a different world order in all aspects of security, economic, international diplomats and all other aspects that encompass sustaining world peace. To build a lasting peace in world and security, all countries in the world are urged to use China’s proposed GSI and implement all its recommendations to resolve current conflicts and achieve common security.

By implementing China’s GSI, the international community will be able to prevent wars and manage conflicts and achieve lasting peace. It is important to note that, for the world to achieve lasting peace, countries need to work together and use their influence to resolve international conflicts.

China, through its GSI, encourages all members of the international community to approach global security issues with a more comprehensive and holistic perspective and jointly safeguard the common security of the world with a stronger sense of responsibility and mission.

Before and after introducing the GSI, China has been at the forefront to encourage other countries to respect international laws.

This has been evident as some countries have been taking law into their hands by forcing their own interests into other countries. Through its foreign police, its principle and initiatives, China has shown and proved to the world that the world could move from unipolar to multipolar system and achieve sustainable peace.

It is time for the developing countries to support China’s GSI and make a different move that will help the world find everlasting peace.

The world needs to be led through a different philosophy that at least will ensure absence of war as a path to total world peace. There are many approaches to this even though there a number of people that have been suggesting multipolar system as an approach to obtaining world peace.

If the international bodies cannot use their powers to achieve world peace, then other measures have to be employed and China’s GSI provides guidelines that can guide the world towards complete peace.
