China reaffirms support for Africa’s development

CHANGSHA, CHINA: CHINA has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Tanzania and the broader African continent as a reliable development partner and genuine friend in achieving shared prosperity.

The pledge was made during the opening of the Fourth China-Africa Economic and Trade Expo (CAETE), held in Changsha, China where Tanzania was represented by the Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Ambassador Mahmoud Thabit Kombo.

Ambassador Kombo has joined ministers for Foreign Affairs and Coordinators for the implementation of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) Action Plan.

The Expo themed ‘China and Africa; Together towards Modernisation’ is taking place from June12-15th, alongside the FOCAC Ministerial Meeting.

At the CAETE expo, about ten companies from Tanzania participated, offering opportunities to engage in meetings and forums focused on specific sectors such as infrastructure, mining, industry, entrepreneurship, agriculture and energy.

In his opening remarks, China’s Minister for Foreign Affairs Wang Yi said that CAETE will enhance economic cooperation between China and Africa.

“China will always firmly participate in Africa’s developmental changes and be a true friend in achieving that successful journey,” he said.

He added that China is working to open up the economies of African countries by reaching agreements to reduce tariffs on products, enabling greater access to the Chinese market.

Moreover, the minister said China is strengthening its partnership with Africa by actively promoting industrial development and technological reforms.

The event concluded with the ministers touring various exhibition booths showcasing products and services, witnessing around 4,700 exhibitors from China and 30,000 companies from Africa promoting and selling their goods and services. CAETE is a platform for promoting economic and trade cooperation between China and African countries
