ZANZIBAR: ZANZIBAR President, Dr Hussein Mwinyi has assured the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), General Jacob John Mkunda of continued cooperation to maintain peace and stability in the Isles.
President Mwinyi also thanked General Mkunda and the Tanzania People’s Defence Forces (TPDF) for successfully organising the parade and the military showcase during colourful celebrations of the 60th anniversary of the 1964 revolution last Friday at New Amani Complex in Unguja.
“Under peace and stability, Zanzibar’s economy will prosper to benefit all the people. During the two-week-long revolution celebration, many development projects were launched or laid foundation stone,” Dr Mwinyi said.
Dr Mwinyi told General Mkunda that the work done by the security and defence forces to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the revolution was exemplary.
“The display of military equipment and other exercises, in addition to the parade, and demonstration gave us unforgettable moments of joy and excitement,” said Dr Mwinyi.
CDF Mkunda and other leaders yesterday congratulated Zanzibar’s President Dr Mwinyi following successful celebrations of the 60th anniversary of the 1964 revolution.
“Congratulations Mr President for the well-organised celebrations,” General Mkunda told Dr Mwinyi when he paid a courtesy call to the President at the State House after the January 12, 2024 celebrations held at the New Amani Complex.
Meanwhile, on different occasions, Dr Mwinyi also met with Ambassador Stephen Mbundi, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, who was accompanied by his Deputy Ambassador Said Shaibu Mussa.
The senior leaders from the foreign Ministry visited the President to introduce themselves and familiarise.
Dr Mwinyi promised them his government’s full support to build a stronger East African Community (EAC).
“Zanzibar is an active participant in various meetings regarding EAC,” Dr Mwinyi said, suggesting that in future employment opportunities, Zanzibar should be considered.
