DODOMA: The ruling Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) has dominated the local government elections, winning 99.01 percent of the 12,150 village/street chairperson positions across the country.
The landslide victory was followed by Chama cha Demokrasia na Maendeleo (CHADEMA), which secured 97 seats, equivalent to 0.79 percent.
Announcing the official results from the November 27, 2024, elections, Minister of State in the President’s Office (Regional Administration and Local Government Mohamed Mchengerwa stated that ACT-Wazalendo came third with 11 seats (0.09 percent), while the Civic United Front (CUF) garnered 10 seats (0.08 percent).
NCCR Mageuzi, UMD, and ADC each secured one seat, representing 0.01 percent.
The elections covered 12,271 voting areas out of the 12,280 contested nationwide for village chairperson positions.
Mchengerwa also confirmed that all 19 fully registered political parties participated in the elections after completing the nomination and appeal processes.

For village council member positions, CCM again emerged dominant, winning 229,075 seats (99 percent). CHADEMA followed with 1,222 seats (0.53 percent), ACT-Wazalendo claimed 232 seats (0.1 percent), CUF won 105 seats (0.05 percent), and NCCR Mageuzi secured 16 seats (0.01 percent).
In ward chairperson positions, CCM won 4,213 seats (98.83 percent), CHADEMA secured 36 seats (0.84 percent), and CHAUMMA won one seat.
The minister also revealed that 26,963,182 out of 31,255,303 verified eligible voters participated in the elections, representing an 86.36 percent voter turnout. Among the registered voters, 16,045,559 were women, while 15,236,772 were men.
