CCM pledges focus on development project implementation

SINGIDA: CHAMA Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) has reiterated that its priority remains delivering development to Tanzanians through the implementation of its 2025–2030 election manifesto, while avoiding engagement in exchanges with defeated political rivals.

CCM National Secretary for Ideology, Publicity and Training, Mr Kenani Kihongosi said on Monday during a meeting with party members in Kindai Ward as part of his tour of Singida Municipality that the party is focusing on implementing development projects as highlighted in the manifesto.

Mr Kihongosi said Tanzanians are in need of tangible development, which he noted has consistently been delivered under CCM leadership.

He added that development is a gradual process and that the ruling party continues to implement its promises progressively.

Following the meeting, Mr Kihongosi visited the construction site of the International Onion Market in Unyambwa, where he laid a foundation stone to officially launch the project, which is currently about 20 per cent complete.

He said that once completed, the market is expected to create more than 4,000 jobs at a time for Singida residents, transform the region’s economic outlook, boost the local economy and enhance farmers’ incomes, positioning Singida as a key economic hub.

Mr Kihongosi urged the contractor to adhere to quality standards, ensure timely completion of the project and safeguard workers’ welfare, particularly through prompt payment of wages.

“Maintain quality as construction progresses and ensure the project is completed within the agreed timeframe. I am confident funds will be released on time, but we do not expect people to be brought from far away when Singida has many youths,” he said.

The market is being constructed under the TACTIC project, which includes road construction, a two-kilometre storm water drainage system, project offices and the onion market itself. The International Onion Market complex will also feature processing and administrative buildings, as well as a perimeter fence.

Upon completion, the project is expected to create employment opportunities for youths, women and artisans. It is being implemented by a local contractor and is projected to boost foreign exchange earnings through onion exports, stimulate growth in trade, housing and transport sectors, and contribute to the realisation of the National Development Vision 2050.

Later, Mr Kihongosi visited Singida District Hospital in Ilongero, where improvement works are ongoing, including the construction of new facilities such as an intensive care unit. During the visit, Ilongero Member of Parliament Mr Haidary Gulamali raised concerns over the lack of an ambulance in the constituency.

In response, Mr Kihongosi contacted the Minister for Health, Mr Mohamed Mchengerwa, who said the ministry is expecting to receive 40 ambulances. He said priority areas would be considered, including Singida District Hospital in Ilongero, for the allocation of an ambulance to address the challenge.
