CCM pledges effective manifesto execution

ZANZIBAR: THE newly appointed Secretary General of the ruling Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM), Dr Emmanuel Nchimbi has assured members that the party will strengthen supervision of the performance of the  Union and Zanzibar governments to ensure effective execution of 2020 – 2025 election manifesto  and serve the citizens with high integrity.

Dr Nchimbi made the assurance while addressing party members and Zanzibaris who turned up in big numbers to welcome him at the Kisiwandui CCM’s office in Unguja on Friday.

“The work being done by President Samia Suluhu Hassan and President Dr Hussein Mwinyi is huge and commendable, what is needed is party members to strengthen supervision of the two governments… I want to assure you that we will oversee the two governments under the CCM Chairperson,” he said.

On CCM stance to honour the intention of the founders of Zanzibar Revolution and strengthening unity, harmony and peace in isles, Dr Nchimbi said there is a need for party members to unite, cautioning them against being  swayed away by any factor.

He called upon the opposition ACT – Wazalendo which forms the Government of the National Unity (GNU) to be ready for negotiation whenever there are issues which need to be discussed.

“I have visited the grave of our founder Abeid Aman Karume and every leader who is being handed the national office is also taken to grave of our founder for prayers. Those who set up this procedure did not mean us to end up praying only but rather remind us that this is a revolution party,” he said.

He added: “Our government is a revolutionary one, obtained through the decision reached by Afro Shiraz Party (ASP) by liberating our country. The liberation handed over powers to our people to lead their country and bring development.”

He called upon CCM members to unite, asking them to desist from being swayed away. We will also encourage our colleagues in ACT- Wazalendo to know that they have responsibility to support the GNU and embrace negotiation.

Dr Nchimbi further warned party members against violating procedures by condoning factions within the party after elections, saying the malpractice is unacceptable and will not be tolerated.

He said it is important for a leader who wins election to be humble and serve for the position, asking the defeated candidates to be patient and wait for another election time. He stressed that winning or losing are two things which go together in any election and are also God’s plans.

“I would therefore like to inform my fellow party members that once the election is over we leave everything behind and support those who won. The defeated candidates must concede defeat and move.   I myself contested 27th times but won only sixth times, and it was not a problem to me,” Dr Nchimbi stressed.

On his part, CCM Deputy Secretary General Zanzibar, Mohammed Said Mohammed (Dimwa), congratulated Dr Nchimbi for being appointed for the post.
