CCM lifts the lid on the suspension of CHADEMA
DODOMA: THE ruling Chama Cha Mapinduzi(CCM) has denied any involvement in the suspension of political activities by the opposition party, the Chama Cha Demokrasia na Maendeleo (CHADEMA), stating that the matter is the outcome of a legal process determined by the courts.
CCM National Secretary for Ideology, Publicity and Training, Mr Kenani Kihongosi, made the statement today, January 21, 2026, noting that the restriction on CHADEMA stems from a ruling by the High Court in Miscellaneous Application No. 8960 of 2025.
Elaborating, the statement from the Secretary stated that the case relates to internal disputes within CHADEMA, in which three party members filed an application in court against the party’s trustees and Secretary General.

According to the statement, the applicants sought a court order to suspend all CHADEMA activities pending the hearing and final determination of the main case.
“The decision is purely legal and has no connection whatsoever with the ruling party,” part of Kihongosi’s statement read.
Moreover, he noted that court decisions must be respected in line with the principles of the rule of law.
Furthermore, CCM urged Tanzanians and all well-wishers of the nation to disregard misinformation currently being circulated and to refrain from hate speech or incitement that could threaten peace, unity, and national stability, which it said has been promoted by some individuals.
