‘CCM committed to dialogue, consensus’
DAR ES SALAAM: CHAMA Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) Secretary-General, Ambassador Dr Emmanuel Nchimbi, has reaffirmed his party’s commitment to promoting democracy through dialogue, cooperation and consensus with other political parties.
Dr Nchimbi made the remarks during the meeting with editors on Friday at the party’s sub-headquarters located along Lumumba Street in Dar es Salaam Region .
He was reacting to the ongoing situation in the country following the recent murder of Chama Cha Demokrasia na Maendeleo (Chadema) Executive Committee member Ally Kibao, as some political parties have chosen to hold demonstrations.
“I reiterate my appeal to other political parties, we, in CCM continue to believe in dialogue and cooperation. We all share the responsibility to build a united and cohesive nation together,” said Dr Nchimbi.
He noted that over the past 60 years, Tanzania has faced various challenges, including the Kagera War, drought, famine and diseases like COVID-19, but has remained united, resilient and emerged stronger from the troubles.
Dr Nchimbi said that as the nation confronts another challenging period with increasing public concerns, some political parties have started issuing divisive statements that incite chaos.
The SG urged the political parties to refrain from undermining citizens’ trust in their government and the Police Force. “It is indeed our duty, along with the opposition parties, to work together to prevent any group of abductors from succeeding in their strategy to divide us. The greatest mistake we could make would be to give victory to such groups,” said Dr Nchimbi.
He highlighted that Tanzania is lucky to have a President committed to fostering unity, seeking reconciliation and building a cohesive nation.
Dr Nchimbi encouraged the opposition to fully exploit the opportunity, emphasising that CCM is ready to collaborate towards the country’s development, noting that there is no other nation like Tanzania.
“This country belongs to all Tanzanians and each individual has a unique responsibility to build it, as inherited from our forefathers. It is also their duty to ensure that future generations inherit a strong nation characterised by stability, peace and unity,” he said.

He added: “The foundations that have fostered unity and cohesion include humanity, peace, freedom and democracy. Any efforts to undermine stability and unity in our country must be fiercely resisted,” he said.
Dr Nchimbi strongly condemned the heinous acts of violence and murder occurring in the country, calling for a thorough and fair investigation to identify all those involved, regardless of their status, so that justice can be served.
He also urged citizens to continue trusting the government and the Police Force, allowing them the necessary time to perform their duty effectively and ensure accurate justice.
Furthermore, he warned that anyone accused should not be regarded as guilty until sufficient evidence has been gathered to implicate them in the crime.
