CCM celebrates remarkable sports achievements
DODOMA – PRIME Minister Kassim Majaliwa highlighted the impressive strides Tanzania has made in sports over the past four years, underscoring the resounding success of the national teams across various categories.
From youth squads to women’s and men’s teams, as well as notable club accomplishments, the achievements demonstrate the government’s dedication to advancing sports as a pillar of national identity and social cohesion.
Presenting a comprehensive four-year report on the implementation of the CCM 2020-2025 election manifesto, Majaliwa articulated the significance of sports as a vital instrument for fostering unity within the nation.
“Sports play a crucial role in building national identity and promoting social harmony,” Majaliwa stated. “For the first time, our women’s national football team, Twiga Stars, qualified for the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
Furthermore, our youth teams have thrived, with the U-20 squad winning the CECAFA Championship and the U-15 team triumphing in the African Schools Football Championship.”
The Prime Minister also expressed pride in Tanzania’s successful bid to host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), marking a historical milestone for the country as it prepares for this prestigious event for the first time since independence.
As part of this commitment, the government is actively engaged in upgrading sports infrastructure, including the construction of the new Arusha stadium, which is currently 20 per cent complete.
Majaliwa recognised President Samia Suluhu Hassan for her steadfast support in the development of sports, including infrastructure enhancements and financial incentives designed to motivate athletes.
“I extend my heartfelt congratulations to President Samia Suluhu Hassan and Chairperson of CCM, for her immense contribution to the sports sector, particularly through initiatives such as president goal reward to nation envoys in global competitions,” he remarked.
Moreover, Prime Minister Majaliwa noted a total of 692 sports clubs have been established during this period, including 115 jogging clubs, as part of efforts to implement the CCM manifesto and promote a healthy lifestyle among citizens.
“Our sixth-phase government has been actively promoting health awareness, encouraging citizens to engage in regular exercise, typically every Saturday. This initiative has fostered community involvement, with 692 sports clubs and 115 jogging clubs registered across the country.”
