CBE trains 2,700 entrepreneurs in one year

DAR ES SALAAM: THE College of Business Education (CBE) has successfully trained 2,700 women and youth entrepreneurs in business and entrepreneurship education over the past year.

This was announced by CBE Rector, Prof Edda Lwoga, during the college’s 60thanniversary celebration. The free, high-quality training programes were delivered to entrepreneurs in Dar es Salaam and Mwanza regions, focusing on critical skills.

Prof Lwoga explained that the training was conducted for entrepreneurs and businesspeople in the Dar es Salaam and Mwanza regions.

The programme aimed to enhance their ability to use social networks for marketing, serve customers professionally and manage business records efficiently.

She further mentioned that CBE has been teaching entrepreneurs how to prepare business analyses, ensuring that those seeking loans to expand their businesses can create professional projects that are acceptable to financial institutions.

In addition, Prof Lwoga noted that the college has continued to provide training to other groups in the informal sector. As part of this effort, CBE has developed curricula and started training long-distance bus operators and real estate brokers.

“These curricula and training have been created by CBE in collaboration with government and private sector stakeholders. Since 2023, approximately 290 bus operators and 45 real estate brokers have been trained, and this training is ongoing,” she said.

To ensure the research area gains significance and benefits local communities, the college has been organising the International Business and Economic Development Conference (BEDC) since 2020. The conference aims to present the results of studies conducted by both local and international scholars.

“For 2024, we held the fifth conference, which was launched by Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa. The conference focused on the theme ‘Business and an Enabling Environment for Inclusive Development,’ and more than 114 studies were presented,” she said.

Prof Lwoga also highlighted the college’s efforts in fostering public debates and academic discussions on critical issues such as business development, entrepreneurship and technological innovation. These discussions have proven valuable in providing students with practical learning experiences.

Looking ahead, CBE’s Vision 2075 outlines the college’s ambition to become an internationally recognised institution known for excellence in business education, research, innovation, and public service.

She emphasised that CBE aims to lead strategic changes through educational innovations that meet both national and international needs while adapting to the changing demands of the market.

The college plans to incorporate programs focusing on modern technologies and entrepreneurship to further enhance its offerings.

“We also intend to strengthen the college’s capacity to address social and economic challenges through research and improved training, while promoting both national and international cooperation to enhance the services we provide,” she said.
