Caution as over 1.2 million pupils sit for PSLE exams tomorrow
DAR ES SALAAM: A total of 1,230,780 candidates are set to sit for their Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE), which starts tomorrow, Wednesday, the National Examinations Council of Tanzania (NECTA) has revealed.
The council has warned that anyone caught cheating during the examination will have their results nullified.
The examination, scheduled to last two days, will begin on Wednesday and conclude on Thursday, September 12, 2024, said NECTA’s Executive Secretary, Said Mohamed, on Tuesday while briefing reporters on the examination preparations.
Breaking down the figures, NECTA’s boss said of the total candidates, 564,176 (45.84%) are girls, while 666,604 (54.16%) are boys. Mohamed also noted that 4,583 candidates with special needs are among those registered to sit for the PSLE exams.

He explained that 98 candidates have vision impairments, 1,402 have low vision, 1,067 have hearing impairments, 486 have intellectual disabilities, and 1,530 have physical disabilities.
He added that out of the total registered candidates, 1,158,862 (94.16%) will take the exam in Kiswahili, while 71,918 (5.84%) will sit for the exam in English.
The subjects to be examined include Kiswahili, English Language, Science and Technology, Mathematics, Social Studies, Life Skills, and Civics.
Moreover, Mohamed confirmed that all necessary materials, including exam papers, have been distributed to all councils and municipalities across the country.
