CAF thumbs up CHAN preps

DAR ES SALAAM: THE General Secretary of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Véron Mosengo-Omba, has confirmed that preparations for the 2025 continental tournament are on track, following a final inspection of venues in Tanzania and Kenya.
Speaking during an official visit to Dar es Salaam, Mosengo-Omba conveyed the assurance of CAF President Patrice Motsepe, stating that he was sent to make this final visit before kickoff to ensure the event’s success.
“From what I have seen, we are ready for kick-off. I want to thank the government of Tanzania for a successful preparation of the finals and completing it in time. I am satisfied and very happy for the work done.”
The finals, which will be co-hosted by Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda, is scheduled to commence on August 2nd, with the opening match set to take place at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam.
Deputy Minister for Information, Culture, Arts and Sports, Hamisi Mwinjuma, expressed his gratitude for CAF’s visit and their positive feedback on Tanzania’s readiness.
“We thank CAF for their visit and their remarks of satisfaction on the preparation. It is a credit that Tanzania is ready to host after the thorough inspection at the main pitch Benjamin Mkapa Stadium and the training grounds at Gymkhana, Law School and Major General Isamuhyo Stadium.”
He also called upon Tanzanians to rally behind the event: “We urge all citizens to fill the stadiums for the opening and every match, both at Benjamin Mkapa and at New Amaan Complex in Zanzibar.”
Mosengo – Omba’s inspection mission extended to Kenya, where he assessed the state of readiness at Kasarani and Nyayo Stadiums, along with several training facilities. He expressed confidence in the preparations made across the co-hosting nations.

“We no longer have questions of the state of readiness, we are now just focusing on minor details to ensure that we have everything in place by 2 August 2025,” he affirmed.
