CAF delays AFCON ticket sales after crash

CASABLANCA: THE Confederation of African Football (CAF) has delayed the opening of the first phase of ticket sales for this year’s Africa Cup of Nations tournament.
The postponement came after the governing body’s ticketing platform crashed just minutes after going live. The ticket presale, which was exclusively available to Visa cardholders, saw thousands of fans flood the platform, causing it to collapse.
Supporters were met with an error message that read: “Ticketing temporarily unavailable. Due to high demand, all available tickets are currently being purchased. Thank you for your understanding.”
The ticketing process had originally been structured in multiple phases with the presale due to run from September 25 to 27.
The general sale for the public was then due to begin tomorrow afternoon.
“The Confederation Africaine de Football (“CAF”) has delayed the opening of the first phase of the ticket sales for the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025 to finalize important details that will ensure the best possible experience for fans,” read a CAF statement.
“CAF is working with the Local Organizing Committee (“LOC”) and various stakeholders and will announce a new date for the first phase of the ticket sales in due course.”
The competition is set to run from December 21 to January 18 in Morocco.
The upcoming edition is set to be the second time that Morocco has played host after also staging the 1988 tournament.
Ivory Coast will be aiming to defend the title after sealing the trophy in 2023 on home soil.
