BoT trains people with disabilities how to identify genuine banknotes

DODOMA: The Bank of Tanzania (BoT) has organized a special training program on identifying genuine and counterfeit banknotes for people with disabilities in Kongwa District, Dodoma Region.
The initiative aims to ensure that financial literacy and proper money-handling education reach all segments of the population.
The Chairman of the Tanzania Federation of People with Disabilities (SHIVYAWATA) in Dodoma Region, Omary Lubuva, said the training will empower persons with disabilities to recognize genuine banknotes as they engage in their daily activities.
“Identifying authentic money is crucial for using legal tender and avoiding being deceived or given counterfeit notes in our transactions. We are also being taught about credible financial institutions where we can access loans. Borrowing from untrustworthy sources can lead to repayment problems,” he said.

Adding, BoT’s Public Relations Officer, George Helahela, said the training also covers proper money preservation techniques to prevent wear and tear, while enhancing awareness of how to choose safe lending institutions.
“We are providing education on how to properly store money because many people lack adequate knowledge on how to maintain banknotes. We’ve also trained them on how to identify reputable lending institutions to avoid problematic loans,” Helahela said.
This training is part of BoT’s broader efforts to ensure that every Tanzanian understands the proper use of money and is protected from financial fraud.
