MWANZA: DEPUTY Prime Minister and Minister for Energy, Dr Doto Biteko has urged the public to maintain peace, including embracing love and cooperation to foster their own development and the nation at large.

Speaking to residents of Sengerema District in Mwanza Region on Friday, Dr Biteko said there could be no development without peace and love among people, asking the public to maintain the existing peace in the country.

“We have gathered here because our country is at peace. Let the people of Sengerema love one another, collaborate, respect each other and support one another so that we can have opportunities to engage in development activities,” said Dr Biteko.

The Deputy Premier commended President Samia Suluhu Hassan for her commitment to bring development to people, saying she has accomplished many things in the interests of all Tanzanians.

“When we mention the projects she has implemented, we often mention her because the responsibility for the development of Tanzanians and the people of Sengerema lies in her hands,” he said.

He said Sengerema now has a District hospital, the facility that has been constructed during President Samia’s leadership.

“During her visit to the hospital, she noticed a shortage of buildings, particularly the surgical ward and now the funding for its construction has already been allocated. Funds for the intensive care unit have been released as well,” he said.

Dr Biteko added that the construction of the hospital’s fence will be funded through the district’s internal revenue. Regarding electricity in Sengerema District, Dr Biteko said all 71 villages have received electricity and that out of 425 hamlets, only a few are yet to be connected to electricity.

He said the government is doing everything in its powers to ensure reliable electricity supply for the district. According to Dr Biteko the government is constructing another power line from Nyakanazi to Igaka and from Igaka to Sengerema.

“This is the indication that the government is doing its job as planned and not just mere words,” he explained. Moreover, the Deputy Premier commended the people of Sengerema for their efforts in producing sufficient food, having harvested over 500,000 tonnes while the demand is only 333,000 tonnes.

He also advised the people of Sengerema to participate in the local government election peacefully, adhering to regulations and laws and to ensure that the elections do not become a source of divisive acts and unrest.

Meanwhile, the Mwanza Regional Commissioner, Mr Said Mtanda said his region is well-prepared for the forthcoming local government election and has ranked third in the voter registration process with a significant number of voters recorded.

On his part, the councillor of Ibisawageni Ward, Mr Jumanne Masunga expressed gratitude to the government for providing funding for various projects, including over 500m/- for the construction of a secondary school in his ward.

“There is also good progress in the water sector with 75 kilometres of pipes laid in the ground to ensure water reaches our residents.

Last year, we built a water tank at 554m/- and we are constructing tarmacked roads,” said Mr Masunga.
