GEITA: DEPUTY Prime Minister and Minister for Energy, Dr Doto Biteko has encouraged Tanzanians aspiring to contest for various leadership positions to begin preparing for the upcoming general election.
Dr Biteko also urged political party leaders to refrain from creating obstacles for individuals who wish to run for leadership roles.
He advised those interested in becoming councillors, members of parliament, or holding other leadership positions to begin formulating their plans as they prepare to vie for the posts later this year.
Dr Biteko was speaking in his home village of Bulangwa, Bukombe District in Geita Region, where he oined thousands of citizens for new year, 2025, celebrations.
He urged Tanzanians to continue fostering love, unity and tolerance saying the values are essential tools for achieving the development and for the prosperity of the nation.
He said under the leadership of President Samia Suluhu Hassan, the government has achieved significant milestones that should be cherished and further developed to drive sustained progress.
“President Samia’s vision has enabled the achievement of development in various sectors such as road infrastructure, schools, health centres and water supply,” Dr Biteko said.
He added that the achievements have been recognised at both national and international level.
He said the progress has been commended by international institutions, including the World Bank (WB) and the Southern African Development Community (SADC).
Dr Biteko asked Tanzanians to ensure the new year is marked by maintaining love, tolerance and mutual support so that everyone becomes a source of joy for others. For his part, the Geita Regional Commissioner, Mr Martine Shigella commended the government for allocating funds and support implementation of various development projects in the region.

The Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) regional chairman, Mr Nicholaus Kasendamila advised Tanzanians to get prepare for general elections.
He said citizens must get prepared to elect right leaders who are committed and capable to bring them development.
On Wednesday, Vice-President, Dr Philip Mpango called on religious leaders and all Tanzanians in general to pray for peace, unity and stability as the country heads to General Election later this year.
Speaking after attending the New Year mass at the blessed Maria Theresa Ledochowska Parish, Dodoma Airport, Dr Mpango asked Tanzanians to work hard to achieve goals and support the government to implement various development programmes.
He said it is important to pray for the nation in order to get leaders who fear God, honest and care for the rights of the disadvantaged.
He added that every Tanzanian has a responsibility to ensure that the country remains peaceful. Dr Mpango also asked Tanzanians to pray for the World peace following the ongoing fighting and misunderstanding in various countries.
