Biteko inaugurates new Miles & Kimberly White High School in Tanga

Dr Doto Biteko has inaugurated a newly renovated and expanded Miles and Kimberly White High School located Tanga region

TANGA: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Energy Dr Doto Biteko has inaugurated a newly renovated and expanded Miles and Kimberly White High School located at Mapatano, Mkinga in Tanga region.

The school that was built in partnership between the government and the global healthcare company Abbott Fund with its foundation is set to be science- based, advanced level education with 800 students per year.

During the well-attended event held on Tuesday, Dr Biteko commended Abbott and its foundation for their longstanding support in strengthening healthier and stronger communities across the country.

“I want to congratulate all the stakeholders who have participated through your time and investment, especially the Abbott Fund, for the way you have generously supported us (Tanzania), we are very grateful for all your contributions to this community, since you came here”, he noted.

Dr Biteko also urged on citizens to take care of the school to ensure it continues to serve future generations.\

The school renamed in honor of Miles White former Abbott CEO and his late wife Kimberly to recognize their contributions to education and community development in Mikinga District, where they previously helped build a primary school in Buntu Village.

White also led Abbott’s public -private partnership with the government, which begun in 2000, aimed at strengthen health and education systems across the country.

The new renovated school which offers new classrooms, library, science laboratories, dormitories for students, a dining hall, staff housing and sports fields, will focus on Ordinary and Advanced- level education with an emphasis on science, technology, engineering and math (STEM)education

It is also designed to serve as a model that supports the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology’s new strategy and curriculum to transform the education system in Tanzania, including a focus on science and vocational training.

On his Abbott Chairman and CEO Mr Robert Ford announced that they invested more than 4 million US dollars to support the new renovated high school and is providing ongoing technical support to ensure its sustainability.

“Alongside health, education is a cornerstone of progress and prosperity for our communities. That’s why we’ve made education a key focus of our longstanding partnership in Tanzania, and why we’re so proud to celebrate the opening of the Miles and Kimberly White High School here today,” he said.

For aver two decades, the Abbott Fund has partnered wit Tanzanian government investing more than 160 million US dollars to improve healthcare, education and community development across the country.
