Bashe sends a warning shot to politicians who ridicule agricultural success

DODOMA: THE Minister for Agriculture, Hussein Bashe, has issued a strong warning to politicians who use political platforms to criticize and mislead the public about agricultural systems for the sake of gaining short-term political mileage, saying such actions pose a threat to the growth of the agricultural sector in the country.
Speaking today in Dodoma during the climax of the Farmers’ Day celebrations (Nanenane), Bashe said some politicians exploit the limited education of farmers to spread misinformation and win votes. He emphasized that systems such as the cotton value chain, the BBT (Building a Better Tomorrow) initiative, and the warehouse receipt system were established to benefit farmers and should not be politicized.
“They are taking advantage of farmers’ limited education to mislead them… I urge farmers to remain patient. We are working hard to secure subsidies for their benefit. Do not allow week-long politics to destroy national systems,” Bashe stated in the presence of President Samia Suluhu Hassan, who was the guest of honor at the event.

Minister Bashe stressed that the government will continue to protect and enhance agricultural systems to ensure that farmers increase productivity and improve their economic well-being. He added that all these efforts are aimed at building a resilient agricultural sector that can adapt to changes and compete globally.
This year’s Nanenane celebrations carried a theme focused on promoting the use of technology in agriculture, fisheries, and livestock farming. The initiative is part of the government’s broader efforts to transform these sectors into modern, productive industries that attract youth and foster sustainable development.
