BAKWATA calls for peace, high voter turnout

DODOMA: THE Islamic Council of Tanzania (BAKWATA) in Dodoma District has called on Muslims to fully participate in the upcoming General Election, urging clerics and Madrassa teachers to mobilise believers to exercise their constitutional right peacefully and responsibly.
BAKWATA Dodoma District Chairman, Mr Bashiru Omary, made the call during a meeting with religious leaders that also featured prayers for the nation.
The cleric said it was vital for every eligible voter to turn out on October 29 to elect leaders who will advance the country’s development agenda.
He also urged the faithful to ignore misinformation circulating on fake social media accounts and instead focus on maintaining peace, unity and prayers for a smooth and fair election.
“BAKWATA believes that on October 29, this year, all citizens will head to the polls to elect the President, Members of Parliament and Councillors. Therefore, the council urges all eligible Muslim voters to show up without fear or hesitation and cast their votes responsibly,” he said.

He also appealed to the leaders and other citizens to continue praying for a peaceful and transparent election that will produce leaders accepted before God and the people.
“Alongside your regular duties as leaders and believers, we urge you to pray diligently for this important national exercise so that we may elect leaders who fear God and will serve with integrity,” he added.
During the meeting, the council also cautioned youths against being manipulated by political groups that promote division or unrest, instead of encouraging them to focus on maintaining peace and unity throughout the election period.
