Aziz Ki: Golden boot key

DODOMA: “I will keep scoring for the team, it’s not about the top scorer” said Stephan Aziz Ki after his side Young Africans secured a 4-0 win over Dodoma Jiji in a fascinating NBC Premier League encounter at Jamhuri Stadium in Dodoma.

The midfielder’s brace against the capital city side not only sealed a convincing victory for the Jangwani-based outfit but also propelled him to 17 league goals, edging him ahead in the race for the golden boot.

Aziz Ki’s stellar performance saw him leapfrog Azam midfielder, Feisal Salum, who has notched 16 goals, thus far, with only two matches remaining for each side.

In a post-match statement, Aziz Ki emphasized: “For me, the team is my first priority; being the top scorer comes second after securing victories for my team.”

Defending champions Young Africans showcased their winning mentality, as they continued their excellence performance in the league.

Striker Clemente Mzize opened the scoring in the first half, connecting with a precise cross from defender Joyce Lomalisa in the 9th minute.

The second half saw Dodoma Jiji falter defensively, conceding two more goals in the 50th and 78th minutes, courtesy of Aziz Ki’s second strike and substitute Maxi Nzengeli.

With 74 points from 28 matches, Yanga solidified their position at the summit of the league table.

Meanwhile, Dodoma Jiji find themselves in 12th place with 30 points, precariously hovering above the relegation playoff zone, occupied by Mashujaa United with 29 points.

Dodoma Jiji striker, Emmanuel Martin lamented their missed opportunities, acknowledging: “We lost the match due to our failure to capitalize on scoring chances and committing numerous mistakes.”

Looking ahead, Yanga will face Tabora United at Azam Complex Stadium on May 25, while Dodoma Jiji’s next fixture is against Ihefu at Liti Stadium in Singida on the same date.
