Azam eager to keep winning streak
DAR ES SALAAM: AZAM have stepped up their drills in preparation with the club optimistic of maintaining a winning streak in the top flight league.
The Chamazi-based club will continue their Premier League campaign with a tricky fixture against Simba on February 9th, 2024. The venue for the match is yet to be confirmed.
Azam’s Head of the Communication Department, Thabit Zakaria, stated, “The team is currently in camp, preparing for the resumption of the league. In the meantime, we are expected to play friendly matches to strengthen the team.”
“Our preparations are focused on all the remaining matches, not just the one against Simba. In the league, there are many fixtures that we need to be ready for,” he added.
Zakaria also expressed confidence in the three players they signed during the recent mini-transfer window, stating that they have great potential and will bring value to the team.
“Football is a game that is open to interpretation. People will judge these players based on their performance on the field, as our perception and appreciation of things may differ,” he explained.
Azam recently signed Sudan’s goalkeeper, Mohamed Mustafa, on a six-long loan deal from El Merreikh. They also acquired two Colombian players, Yeison Fuentes and Franklin Navarro.
Navarro has already featured in some of Azam’s matches during the Mapinduzi Cup at the New Amaan Sports Complex in Zanzibar.
Currently, Azam sit at the top of the league table with 31 points from 13 matches. They are one point ahead of Young Africans, who are in second place with 30 points from 11 games.
Simba occupy third place with 23 points from 10 matches. KMC are in fourth place with 21 points from 14 games, while Singida Fountain Gate sit in fifth place with 20 points having played 14 matches.
