AU-EU Summit calls for a deep partnership in trade, technology, and clean energy.

LUANDA: The European Union said the time has come for African countries and members of the union to deepen their partnership in trade, technology, investment, and clean energy, saying the partnership will benefit residents of both blocs.
The Tanzanian Vice President, Dr Emmanuel Nchimbi, participated in the Seventh Summit of Heads of State and Government of the African Union and the European Union, which officially began on November 24, 2025, in Luanda, Angola.
The summit brings together leaders from African countries and the European Union.
Dr. Nchimbi represented the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, at the summit, which was jointly opened by the Co-Chairs the President of Angola and Chairperson of the African Union, João Lourenço, and the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen.

Speaking earlier at the summit, Ursula said the time had come for the two blocs to strengthen their partnership more than ever before to ensure that citizens of both regions benefit greatly, especially in key sectors such as trade, investment, infrastructure, technology, and clean energy.
She emphasized that cooperation between Africa and Europe should provide positive solutions to the various challenges facing the people of both regions, especially Africans, such as youth unemployment and lack of access to clean energy. She added that the European Union is ready to work with Africa to address these challenges by bringing new skills and new business opportunities.
Regarding clean energy, Ursula noted that through the “Scaling Up Renewables in Africa” initiative, the EU has mobilized 15.5 billion euros to finance clean energy projects across Africa, stressing that every continent should enjoy access to affordable clean energy.

For his part, President João Lourenço emphasized the importance of strengthening international cooperation as a way to enhance strong relations between Africa and Europe, explaining that peace and economic collaboration are key pillars for achieving shared prosperity across both continents.
He also called on African nations and the European Union to deepen strategic cooperation, particularly in areas of development and trade.
