ZANZIBAR: The government of Zanzibar has announced that the arrival of the new Boeing B787-8 Dreamliner, expected today, has been postponed due to adverse weather conditions.
Zanzibar’s Acting Government Spokesperson, Raqey Mohamed made the announcement on Monday, noting that the reception ceremony will be rescheduled.
The new aircraft, capable of carrying 262 passengers, was set to join the fleet of Air Tanzania Company Limited (ATCL), further enhancing the national carrier’s capacity and route network.

The plane will be received by Zanzibar’s President, Dr. Hussein Mwinyi, at the Abeid Amani Karume International Airport. This addition will bring the total number of Boeing B787-8 Dreamliners in ATCL’s fleet to two.
Transport Minister Prof. Makame Mbarawa stated that the arrival of this state-of-the-art, long-range aircraft will enable ATCL to increase its flight offerings. The plane, arriving from the USA, is equipped with 22 business class seats, 240 economy class seats, and a cargo capacity of 15 to 20 tonnes, depending on passenger volume and luggage.
