DAR ES SALAAM: Former Tanzania Standard Newspapers (TSN) managing editor, Ambassador Ferdinand Ruhinda, has passed away.
Mr. Ruhinda, who once represented the country as an Ambassador to Canada and China, died on Friday night after losing a battle with diabetes.
According to information, the envoy will be buried on Monday, June 17, 2024, at the Kondo cemeteries located in Kunduchi, on the outskirts of Dar es Salaam. Presently, the funeral is being held at his home in Masaki.
The renowned journalist served in various newsrooms, including executive editor of the newspapers Uhuru and Mzalendo, and at TSN, the publishers of Daily News/Sunday News and HabariLeo.
The diplomat was one of the founders of Mwananchi Communications Limited (MCL) newspapers as well as Uhuru Radio.
The journalist, diplomat, and businessman studied journalism at Nairobi University and attended various professional short courses with the American Associated Press and in China.
In the early 1980s, he joined the Diplomatic Services as Director of Information and Research in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and later became the Minister Counselor at Tanzania’s mission in Sweden before becoming Tanzania’s High Commissioner in Canada and later Tanzania’s Ambassador to China, just before retiring from public service.
