Airtel, ZICTIA partner to accelerate Z’bar digital transformation

ZANZIBAR: ZANZIBAR Minister for Infrastructure, Communication and Transport Khalid Salum Mohammed said the partnership between Airtel Tanzania and the Zanzibar Communication and ICT Infrastructure Agency (ZICTIA) lays a crucial foundation for implementing projects that will directly advance digital inclusion for citizens.

“We see public-private partnerships as a practical way to accelerate e-government, e-learning, e-health and e-commerce, especially in underserved communities,” he said over the weekend.

Airtel and ZICTIA signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that sets a framework for cooperation on infrastructure projects to boost broadband, enhance digital inclusion and strengthen community support services through technology Airtel Managing Director, Charles Kamoto, said the MoU shows their commitment to being more than a telecom provider.

“We’re investing in infrastructure and partnerships that empower communities, support government priorities and drive Zanzibar’s innovation and inclusive growth,” he said.

ZICTIA Director General Eng Shukuru Awadh Suleiman said public-private partnerships are important in unlocking the islands’ ICT potential.

“Through our partnership with Airtel Tanzania, we are expanding infrastructure and creating a more connected society where citizens, businesses and government benefit from reliable, secure and high-capacity digital services,” he said.

Additionally, the MoU will also support financial inclusion by making digital financial services more accessible and convenient for citizens.
