Airtel boosts connectivity in Morogoro, K’njaro with new towers

MOROGORO: Airtel Tanzania has strengthened its push for nationwide connectivity with the construction of three new telecom towers in the Morogoro and Kilimanjaro regions, a move expected to expand rural network coverage, enhance service quality and intensify competition in Tanzania’s increasingly data-driven mobile market.

This move has come after Airtel Tanzania constructing and launching three new communication towers in the Morogoro and Kilimanjaro regions.

The new installations are set to significantly improve connectivity, enhance service delivery and accelerate socio-economic development for thousands of residents.

Morogoro region leads with two towers, one in Gairo District’s Magoweko ward and Kihonda VETA while Kilimanjaro region gets one tower located in Sanya Juu, Hai District bringing the total number of new sites to three.

The towers are expected to address longstanding connectivity challenges and unlock new opportunities in education, commerce, and community development.

Speaking at the launch, Airtel Tanzania’s Kilimanjaro Zonal Manager, Faustine Mtui, underscored the company’s broader role in national development, noting that the latest infrastructure investment reinforces Airtel’s support for the government’s agenda to expand communications access and stimulate youth employment.

“Our focus remains on delivering reliable, affordable, and inclusive network coverage to underserved areas,” he said, emphasizing that improved connectivity is central to unlocking economic opportunities and bridging regional digital gaps.

More than 300 youth in Gairo District are already benefiting from Airtel’s employment opportunities as mobile money agents.

With improved connectivity, the new tower is expected to create additional jobs and strengthen access to financial and commercial services in the area.

On his side, the Magoweko Ward Councilor Mr Shabani Sajilo emphasized the profound impact the new infrastructure will have on residents:

“For years, the lack of a reliable network affected economic activities, disrupted day-to-day business, and hindered emergency communication. This tower is a long-awaited solution and will greatly enhance productivity across our community.”

Residents expressed strong enthusiasm about the improved connectivity. Ms Happy Sembwa, a community member from Magoweko, shared:

“Lack of communication services made it difficult to access important information, conduct financial transactions, and reach loved ones during emergencies. With Airtel’s service now available, we expect new opportunities in online business, digital learning, and easier access to government services.”

To celebrate the launch, Airtel announced a special three-day promotion for local residents using the new towers, offering 50 cross-network minutes, 500MB of data and 50 SMS as a token of appreciation.

These new towers mark another milestone in Airtel Tanzania’s broader strategy to bridge the digital divide, enhance community safety, and enable socio-economic growth across the country.
