AI is not a threat to jobs; it facilitates efficiency, Tanzanians assured

DAR ES SALAAM: THE  advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AI) has been described as not a threat to replace people’s jobs but rather an opportunity to facilitate work efficiency.

This has been remarked today, January 11th in Dar es Salaam by SCANCODE Tanzania founder and Chief Executive Officer Mr Mgimba Faustine, during a press briefing.

“Indeed, most people are worried about the growth of AI, thinking that it is likely going to replace their jobs in the near future, which is not the real case.

“It is Fear of Unknown… people should understand that AI is here to help them improve their performance in executing their responsibilities.

“If you are unable to create your own AI, you have to learn how to use it, and in case of further assistance, then SCANCODE Tanzania is here to render the required help,” Mr Mgimba noted.

He continued that previously, people were afraid of computers as they believed that its revolution could replace their jobs, but now, he said, that is not the issue as computers are applied to simplify tasks.

“AI is just a working tool, and by adopting it, we are assured to do high-quality jobs with minimal human errors,” he said..

He then used the same platform to announce that preparations are underway for the upcoming National Artificial Intelligence Conference (NAIC) scheduled from May 18th to 21st in Arusha this year.

The conference is pegged to provide a pathway on the current and future status of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the country and address some of the challenges brought by technological advancement.

“This is the first time we are organizing this event at a national level; as such, many things will be discussed by people who are experts in technology issues.

“Since AI continues to develop, we have to set our own standards on the things we need to adopt and at the same time, leave those which are not relevant to us,” he said.

The NAIC 2026 will unfold under the theme: ‘Strengthen Digital Infrastructure to Support AI-QR.
