‘AFCON gateway to success’

TANZANIA: TAIFA Stars full-back Novatus Dismas said playing at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) finals is a platform to sharpen one’s career.

His remarks come as the country’s envoys gear up to face Morocco in their Group F opening match of the contest.

“Aside from battling for an opportunity to qualify for the AFCON quarter-finals, I think it is also a good platform to clear one’s path to be seen by big clubs in the world,” he said.

Commenting on overall preparations, he said everything is unfolding well in the camp and that morale among players is rising and encouraging.

“We are all working hard to get enough playing time throughout the competition,” he said.

His teammate Feisal Salum called on full backing from all Tanzanians saying through their maximum support, they can record convincing results in the contest.

However, he also dismissed claims made by some people that they are underdogs in their group, saying: “In AFCON finals, there are no underdogs because each team qualified to reach this far.”

On the breath, millions of Tanzanians are anxious to see how their flag bearers will perform against Morocco on Wednesday.

Thereafter, Adel Amrouche’s side will face Zambia on January 21st before battling DR Congo on January 24th in their last group F assignment.

Already, Tanzanians have a strong belief that this time; their team is destined to achieve a lot through stamping new records.

Meanwhile, the full 27-member squad tasked with the 2023 AFCON mission has the following players: Goalkeepers Aishi Manula, Beno Kakolanya, and Kwesi Kawawa. Defenders: Haji Mnoga, Mohammed Hussein, Lusajo Mwaikenda, Abdulmalik Zakaria, Abdi Banda, Dickson Job, Ibrahim Bacca, Bakari Mwamnyeto, Novatus Dismas and Miamo Danilo.

Midfielders: Feisal Salum, Himid Mao, Mzamiru Yassin, Sospeter Bajana, Ben Starkie, Tarryn Allarakhia,Mudathir Yahya and Morice Abraham.

Strikers: Mbwana Samatta, Simon Msuva, Mohammed Omar, Charles Mmombwa, Kibu Denis and Cyprian Kachwele.
