ACT-Wazalendo pledges major reforms at Zanzibar ports

ZANZIBAR: THE ACT-Wazalendo’s Zanzibar presidential candidate Mr Othman Masoud Othman has promised sweeping reforms at the Zanzibar Ports Corporation if elected in the upcoming October 29th General Election.

Addressing a campaign rally in Mpendae constituency, Unguja Urban District, Mr Masoud said if given mandate, the party will transform Zanzibar into a mega regional gateway.

He also vowed to fight corruption, saying Zanzibar belongs to honest people.

“Corruption has no place here. Let 2025 be the year of real change,” Mr Masoud told supporters.

Speaking earlier at the same venue, the party’s campaign Manager, Mr Ismail Jussa said if elected, ACT-Wazalendo led government will significantly improve port operations by among others, checking out persistent delays, excessive bureaucracy and high costs that are hurting businesses.

“The government has spent over 17bn/- on port equipment, but there is still room to further improve services to ease burden that traders’ shoulder,” said Jussa.

He added that high handling charges pegged at 1.4m/- per 40-foot container and 105 US dollars to transport a container from Malindi Port to Maruhubi container yard, were deterring investors and traders alike.

“The only way to fix this is by electing Othman Masoud and ACT-Wazalendo. We are committed to make significant improvement in Zanzibar,” Mr Jussa declared.

Meanwhile, ACTWazalendo’s Dodoma Regional Chairperson, Mr Musa Habagui, reaffirmed the party’s commitment to conducting peaceful, issuebased campaigns.

Speaking at a campaign event in Ipagala Ward, Habagui introduced candidates for various positions and urged Tanzanians to vote for ACT-Wazalendo to protect national resources and ensure inclusive development.

“I call on all Tanzanians to vote for ACT-Wazalendo, so that every citizen can benefit from the national cake,” he said.

The councillorship candidates unveiled include: Danson Kaijage – Ipagala Ward, Abraham Mwaisabila – Zuzu Ward, Maila Masinga – Ipala Ward, Emanuel Kinyaa – Madukani Ward, Obed Mazuguni – Mtumba Ward, Husein Ramadhani – Chang’ombe Ward and Alex Mahenge – Dodoma Makulu Ward.

Others are James Midello – Chamwino Ward, Stanley Lesilwa – Kizota Ward, Jankae Mhapa – Kikuyu North Ward, Shabani Kiteleje – Parliamentary candidate, Mtumba Constituency.

At the same event, Danson Kaijage, the Ipagala Ward candidate, pledged to address water shortages and poor road infrastructure.

“Despite being just seven kilometres from City Council offices, Ipagala still suffers. I’ve lived here for over 16 years, your problems are mine. Give me the chance to serve you,” he said.

He also urged residents to vote in large numbers on October 29 General Election.

Meanwhile, candidate for Mtumba Ward, Obed Mazuguni said his priorities include resolving water and electricity shortages and addressing land disputes allegedly caused by corrupt local leaders.

“We can no longer tolerate this level of neglect. Our people deserve better,” he said.
