A doctor arrested for criminal offences investigations in Geita

GEITA: The Police Force in Geita Region has confirmed the arrest of Dr Kibaba Furaha Michael, an employee of the Geita Regional Referral Hospital, in connection with ongoing investigations into alleged criminal offenses.
Geita Regional Police Commander, Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police (SACP) Safia Jongo, clarified the situation in a media statement on Wednesday after widespread social media posts on Tuesday which claimed Dr Kibaba had been missing since the previous day while on duty.
The RPC stated that Dr Kibaba was arrested due to evidence collected regarding various criminal allegations leveled against him.
She said the suspect will remain in police custody until the remaining investigations are completed, after which further legal steps will be taken against him.
On his part, the President of the Medical Association of Tanzania (MAT), Dr. Mugisha Nkoronko, speaking via phone, confirmed receiving the information and said the association’s leadership is closely following up on the matter.

“Since these are criminal issues, we want the Police to continue with their procedures transparently, including taking him to court according to the law then we will know the exact nature of the offences.”
“We are grateful to hear that he is safe, and we continue to urge our colleagues implementing the law through the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Police Force to complete the formal process of officially charging him,” he said.
He added that the Medical Association of Tanzania continues to work with the family and stakeholders who have the best interests of the medical profession at heart, to ensure justice is served for Dr. Kibaba and to ease public tension.
