CBE eyes market demand with Master’s in AI

DAR ES SALAAM: THE College of Business Education (CBE) plans to launch a Master’s Degree in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, positioning itself to meet rising market demand and align with global technological shifts.

CBE Rector, Prof Edda Lwoga, said the programme is part of 11 new curricula under development, which will be submitted to the National Council for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (NACTVET) for accreditation.

“AI is our first curriculum in the field of technology and we have done this to meet market needs and keep up with the rapid technological changes in the world,” she said during the opening of a multi-disciplinary curriculum development workshop, over the weekend.

Prof Lwoga said the college had already equipped its academic staff with training in artificial intelligence and acquired relevant teaching facilities to ensure the programme launches with sufficient capacity.

“We are well prepared in the area of AI, with adequate lecturers and equipment in place. This presents a valuable opportunity for Tanzanians to pursue a specialised field that is currently in high global demand,” she said.

The college is also introducing a new curriculum targeting brokers, aimed at formalising the sector and creating recognised pathways for youth already engaged in informal brokerage services.

“We have started offering training at certificate and diploma levels to ensure brokers are trusted and absorbed into the formal system,” she said.

The Tanzania Brokers’ Association has been involved in the process to assist with student mobilisation. Prof Lwoga said the training would be delivered across all four CBE campuses Dar es Salaam, Dodoma, Mbeya and Mwanza providing broader access for young people countrywide.

Other curricula under review include Metrology and Quality Management, Transport and Logistics Management, Tourism and Events Marketing, Entrepreneurship and Innovation, as well as Postgraduate Diplomas in Procurement and Supplies Management, Project Management, Business Administration, Accountancy, Real Estate and Artificial Intelligence Prof Lwoga said the reforms aim to foster innovation, enhance industry relevance and support national development goals through responsive academic offerings.
