TIA unveils digital platform to boost learning

DODOMA: THE Tanzania Institute of Accountancy (TIA) has unveiled a new digital learning platform linking all eight of its campuses, a move expected to significantly expand access to quality education and bridge learning gaps for students in remote areas.

The e-learning system is part of the institution’s broader strategy to embrace technology and improve academic outcomes across the country.

TIA Chief Executive Officer/Rector Prof William Pallangyo, said that in addition to classroom learning, the institution has decided to invest in e-learning to ensure that students gain access to quality education from top lecturers.

“Recently, we launched various teaching tools, including smart boards. This enables, for instance, a student in Mtwara to receive lessons from a lecturer in Kigoma through the ICT system,” Prof Pallangyo said on Wednesday during the ongoing Public Service Week.

“So, all eight campuses can be connected using the ICT system, allowing our students to benefit, and also enabling us to utilise our lecturers effectively based on their expertise and competence in various subjects.” Prof Pallangyo said the system allows students to benefit more from the institution’s experts, taking into account their quality and proficiency in different academic disciplines.

Moreover, he said government allocated 59.2bn/- to the institution for infrastructure improvements across all eight campuses, including classrooms, libraries, study rooms and teachers’ houses.

Prof Pallangyo said the investment will create a more conducive learning and teaching environment and enable an increase in student admissions beyond the current 31,000.

The government has increased the number of staff at the institute from 277 in the 2020/21 to 450 by April this year. This contributing improving the teacher-to-student ratio and teaching environment.

“This has significantly improved our services, enhanced the teacher-student ratio and boosted staff morale through salary increments and opportunities for professional development,” he said.
