Samia opens the water pipe, cotton plant in Simiyu

BARIADI: PRESIDENT Samia Suluhu Hassan has graced the official opening of Moil Mills Company Limited, a plant that manufactures water pipes and processes cotton.

During the launch took place today, June 16, 2025, in Simiyu Region, President Samia, who is in Simiyu for a seven-day visit, toured around the factories and expressed her satisfaction over the quality and durability of the pipes.

Addressing the public, President Samia said that the company will ease the country’s burden of using foreign currency in importing pipes.

Elaborating, the Head of State said that the company has come at the right time as the government embarks on implementing many water distribution projects to reduce the burden on women carrying water on their heads.

“Pipes are a major resource in those projects, and now they are being produced right here. This is a great relief to us all,” she stated.

However, commenting on the cotton processing side, the President stated that the government is also embarking on promoting the cotton sector to the international market for the benefit of both farmers and the country.

“As the government, our main job is to take each crop and elevate its value. We’ve already made great progress with several crops like cashew nuts, coffee, and even pigeon peas. Now we are focusing on cotton,” she stated.

She added, “I want to assure you that every step that the government takes is for your benefit, especially cotton farmers and the wider community. No government decision will ever be made to harm the farmer”.

Additionally, President Samia noted that since the investor plans to add the cotton value in the first phase, the government pledges to buy cotton from him in the second phase and use it at a factory expected to be constructed soon.

“We aim to stop exporting raw cotton bales for processing abroad, where others get jobs and profits. We want to process our cotton right here so that the people of Simiyu can gain employment in their own region,” she said.
