Tanzania opens lid on 56.49 tril- budget

DODOMA: The Tanzanian government has proposed a 56.49tri/- budget for 2025/26.

The Finance Minister Dr. Mwigulu Nchemba, presenting the budget, outlined its funding sources, which include 40.47tri/- from domestic revenue, 1.07tri/ in foreign grants, and 14.94tri/- in loans.

Dr Nchemba  presented the breakdown of expected domestic revenue as follows: 32.31tri/- from tax revenue, 6.48tril/- from non-tax revenue, and 1.68tri/- from local government authorities.

He said the loan portion consists of 6.27ri/- from domestic sources and 8.68tri/- from international lenders.

Expenditure for the 2025/26 fiscal year includes 9.17tri/ for civil servant salaries and pension contributions, 5.58tri/- for the purchase of goods and services, and 6.49tri/- for loan interest payments.

Additionally, he said 22.17tri/- is allocated for grants and transfers to public institutions, state-owned enterprises, and local governments.

The government also plans to allocate 7.72tri/- to service both domestic and external debt.

Dr. Nchemba expressed gratitude to Tanzania’s development partners who have committed to supporting the national budget.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank our Development Partners who have committed to contributing to the 2025/26 budget to help achieve our national development goals,” he remarked.
