RC Mtambi inaugurates Muhoji Secondary School built by community effort

MUSOMA: THE Mara Regional Commissioner, Hon. Colonel Evans Mtambi, has officially inaugurated Muhoji Secondary School, a new educational institution established in Muhoji Village, Bugwema Ward, Musoma Rural District.

The school’s construction was initiated in December 2022 through collective community efforts and support from development stakeholders.

Addressing Muhoji dwellers earlier this week, Col. Mtambi lauded the residents of Bugwema Ward for their unity, patriotism, and outstanding volunteerism.

He commended their dedication to completing the school, which now becomes the second secondary school serving the ward’s four villages — Bugwema, Kinyang’erere, Masinono, and Muhoji.

“This achievement is a testimony to what can be accomplished when communities work together for the common good,” remarked Col. Mtambi.

The Regional Commissioner also reaffirmed the Sixth Phase Government’s commitment, under the leadership of President Dr Samia Suluhu Hassan, to strengthening the education sector across the country.

“Our President is making substantial investments in education — clear evidence that it remains a top priority on the national agenda,” he said, to applause from the audience.

During the ceremony, residents and local leaders expressed their continued support for President Samia, describing her as the most suitable and trusted choice to lead the nation forward.

Construction of the school began following a public fundraising campaign organised by the Musoma Rural Member of Parliament, Prof Sospeter Muhongo. The initiative mobilised financial contributions and voluntary labour from community members.

The project has, so far, cost a total of 175,346,955/-, with key contributions from the central government (75m/-), the Constituency Development Fund (24.4m/-), village residents, the Musoma District Council, Muhoji natives, development partners, and the area MP.

The completed infrastructure includes four classrooms, a staff office, and 17 sanitation units for students and teachers. The school has been connected to electricity and is in the final stages of piped water installation.

According to Prof Muhogo, Ppans are already in place to expand the school’s infrastructure.

Proposed developments include additional classrooms, science laboratories, a library, an ICT room, an administrative block, and staff housing. These facilities aim to establish Muhoji Secondary School as a modern education hub for Bugwema Ward and surrounding communities.

To further underline government progress, attendees were presented with Volumes V and VI of the CCM 2020–2025 Election Manifesto implementation reports.

The event featured vibrant cultural performances, including the traditional Liranda dance from Muhoji Village.
