Census tablets distributed to schools, colleges

PRIME Minister Kassim Majaliwa has launched the distribution of 293,400 tablets to teachers and school quality assurance officers and colleges to improve teaching and learning through Information Communication Technology (ICT).

The tablets which were used during the 2022 National Population and Housing Census will be distributed to public primary school teachers in Mainland (185,404), secondary school teachers (89,805), and school quality assurance officers (1,666).

Others are rectors in  public teachers’ colleges(1,353),   community  development colleges -FDC (297), education officers at  regional, district and ward levels  (5,772),  Vocational  Education Training  Authority (VETA) (996) and National  Examination Council of Tanzania (NECTA) (8,357).

The Premier insisted that, the gadgets should be used to improve education in the country.

He said that the government was not expecting to see the tablets being misused or given to people who are not in the said groups.

The PM directed the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology to strengthen ICT teaching at all levels.

He also directed all respective authorities involved in the distribution of the tablets to reach the intended beneficiaries and used for the intended purposes.

“I would like to emphasise that these tablets are meant for teachers, they should be given them and not otherwise,” he insisted.

Mr Majaliwa also called upon all those who would benefit from the gadgets to take care of them and use them for the intended purposes.

The PM said the sixth phase government under President Samia   Suluhu Hassan is committed to invest in ICT in order to enable youths to get employment and promote economic growth through technology.

He said the government commitment was in line with  implementation of Chama  Cha Mapinduzi (the Ruling Party) Election Manifesto  which directs the  government  to strengthen  ICT use  at various levels  to stimulate  economic growth and improve  people’s livelihood.
