Wasira urges Tanzanians to prepare for October polls

RUVUMA: THE ruling Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) Vice -Chairman, Stephen Wasira has called on Tanzanians, especially party members and supporters to begin making full preparations to participate in the upcoming General Election scheduled for October this year.

Speaking during a regional internal CCM meeting in Tunduru District, Ruvuma Region, Mr Wasira said that no individual or group can stop the election process.

He urged citizens not to be misled by online rhetoric or misinformation, but instead to prepare to exercise their constitutional right to vote.

“Don’t be misled, no one can stop the election. It will be held and you, as ambassadors of your communities, must ensure our people are ready to vote when the time comes,” he said.

Mr Wasira underscored the reconciliation efforts led by President Samia Suluhu Hassan over the past four years, noting that her leadership has contributed significantly to national unity and political dialogue.

He said that 18 registered political parties have participated in discussions facilitated by the President, despite one party attempting to demand exclusive attention.

“President Samia chose to listen to all political parties, including that one. There is no legal or constitutional basis to claim that the election will be postponed,” he added.

The CCM Vice-Chairman cautioned against the spread of false information, likening misinformation to darkness and stressing that truth always prevails.

“Lies are like darkness, truth will always shine through. Our party is preparing in full force for the General Election,” Mr Wasira said.

Addressing issues of peace, unity and religious harmony, Mr Wasira assured Tanzanians that the country remains peaceful and free from religious or ethnic discrimination.

He condemned any attempts to create religious divisions, asserting that both Muslims and Christians should coexist peacefully, as both faiths trace their origins to Abraham.

“Why should people of different faiths argue? No one is stopped from worshipping in mosques or churches. We should not allow religion to be a source of conflict,” he said.

Mr Wasira further praised Tanzania’s history of unity, pointing out that the country has avoided the tribal and religious conflicts that have plagued other nations across Africa.

“Despite challenges, Tanzania has maintained over 60 years of peace and unity. This is not something we take for granted. It is the foundation of our development,” he stated.

He concluded by reaffirming CCM’s and President Samia’s commitment to strengthening national cohesion, which he said has earned the President widespread trust.
