Absa, BoT Governor in talks to boost transparency and growth

DAR ES SALAAM: In a show of continued commitment to regulatory cooperation and national development, top executives from Absa Bank Tanzania have held a high-level engagement with the Governor of the Bank of Tanzania (BoT), Emmanuel Tutuba.
The meeting, part of Absa’s customary annual engagements, provided a platform for strategic dialogue and mutual reflection on the country’s evolving financial sector.
The Absa delegation was led by Managing Director Obedi Laiser, who was accompanied by Chief Operating Officer Oscar Mwamfwagasi and Acting Director of Compliance and Legal, Alistides Kashasira.
According to a statement issued after the meeting, the bank shared updates on its performance and future strategic direction, with discussions covering key issues such as data privacy and protection, growth and expansion strategies, as well as emerging regulatory trends.
Also high on the agenda were Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) priorities and the bank’s Corporate Citizenship efforts.
“This visit underscores our commitment to transparency, accountability, and shared progress,” Mr Laiser said. “We deeply value our partnership with the Bank of Tanzania and remain focused on aligning our purpose with the country’s financial priorities.”

On his part, Governor Tutuba commended Absa for the engagement, stressing the importance of public-private collaboration in fostering a resilient and inclusive financial system.
The visit reaffirms Absa Bank Tanzania’s role as not only a leading financial services provider but also a key player in promoting sustainable economic transformation aligned with national goals.
