Airtel ranks second in govt dividend payout

DAR ES SALAAM: AIRTEL Tanzania emerged as the second top dividend contributor after presenting 73bn/- cheque to the government during the ‘Gawio Day 2025’, yesterday.

This substantial contribution not only reflects Airtel’s strong financial performance but also reinforces its role as a key partner in national development through a productive and strategic public-private partnership.

President Samia Suluhu Hassan showed her appreciation when officiating the event to private sector entities that contributed some 1.28tri/- in dividends and contributions in 2024/25 stressing government commitment to nurturing a vibrant business environment.

“This is a clear example of a meaningful public-private partnership in action,” President Samia said adding:

“Going forward, Annual Dividend Day will be institutionalised to foster stronger, more transparent engagement with the private sector and to promote a business environment that supports sustainable economic growth.”

Since 2019, Airtel Tanzania Plc and Airtel Money Tanzania Limited have collectively contributed over 280bn/- in dividends to the government which owns a 49 per cent stake.

Airtel Tanzania Chairman Mr Eliudi Sanga said they are committed to advancing the country’s socio-economic transformation.

“Our investments are aligned with the government’s national priorities, from expanding digital infrastructure to supporting inclusive access and enabling the digital economy,” said Mr Sanga.

Also speaking after the event, Airtel Tanzania Managing Director Charles Kamoto said the dividend contribution was a firm statement of their commitment to the country’s sustainable growth.

“It reflects how alignment between government policy and private sector innovation can drive inclusive progress and fast-track the digital economy,” Mr Kamoto said.

Mr Kamoto said Airtel is proud to support through our ongoing investments in network expansion, affordable devices and digital platforms across the country.
