Tanzania to establish 10 new ARV factories

DODOMA: TANZANIA has announced plans to establish 10 new factories for ARVs and other medical products.

It was revealed yesterday, June 2, 2025, here that the Ministry of Health, in collaboration with various stakeholders, will establish 10 new factories for the production of medicines and medical equipment in the country.

These factories will manufacture a range of products, including antiretroviral drugs (ARVs), intravenous fluids (drips), laboratory reagents, as well as tablets and liquid medicines.

The announcement was made in Parliament in Dodoma by the Minister for Health, Jenista Mhagama, who stated that the initiative aims to enhance investment in the pharmaceutical and health product manufacturing sector, while also boosting the national economy.

Minister Mhagama further revealed that the government, through the Medical Stores Department (MSD), has launched a program to revive and support the Tanzania Pharmaceutical Industries (TPI) factory located in the Arusha region, enabling it to begin full production of ARV drugs.

These efforts are intended to strengthen the availability of medicines within the country, reduce dependence on imported drugs, and enhance the health sector and domestic production capacity.
