THE National Service’s SUMA JKT Shoes and Leather Products Co. Limited has donated more than 500 pairs of shoes to ‘Mama Ongea na Mwanao’ Institution to be distributed to pupils in rural primary schools.
The donation has been given to support the Samia Nivishe Viatu campaign which is being run by the organisation.
Speaking at the handover ceremony yesterday in Dar es Salaam, SUMA JKT Shoes and Leather Products Co. Ltd Managing Director, Major Mathias John said that the donation aimed at strengthening cooperation between SUMA JKT and the community.
“We have seen the commitment and efforts of artists for our Tanzanian children, so we have started by giving them 500 pairs of shoes to help rural pupils,” said Major John.
He also said that SUMA JKT will continue to stick to their vision and improve their services, including giving back to the community.
Major John said that their factory currently has the capacity to produce 500 pairs per day while they produce 1.5 million pairs per month.
On his part, ‘Mama Ongea na Mwanao Chairman, Steven Mengele said the campaign aimed at reaching children in all villages in Tanzania.
“We started distributing 300 shoes to two schools in Kibiti, hijabs and shoes in Tabora Region. Right now, with this support from SUMA JKT, we are heading to the southern regions of Lindi and Mtwara,” he said.
He said they were determined to go around the country to create a bond between the government and the people.
“This campaign is called ‘Samia Nivishe Viatu’, which after concluding the 2015 election campaigns we thought that the institution should not end in political matters, that is why we came up with Samia Nivishe Viatu campaign so that we can support the community,” he said.
