Tanzania to host ARSO’s General Assembly

DAR ES SALAAM: TANZANIA, through the Tanzania Bureau of Standards (TBS) in collaboration with the Zanzibar Bureau of Standards (ZBS), has been granted the opportunity to host the General Assembly and Council Meetings of the African Organisation for Standardisation (ARSO). The meetings will take place in Zanzibar from June 23 to 27, 2025, and are aimed at providing a platform for businesses and entrepreneurs to showcase locally produced goods and services.

Speaking to the media today May 27, 2025, in Dar es Salaam, the Director General of TBS, Dr. Ashura Katunzi, stated that the event is expected to attract approximately 300 delegates from over 50 countries, including ARSO member states and various stakeholders in the field of standards from both within and outside the African continent. The President of Zanzibar, Hussein Ali Mwinyi, is expected to officiate as the guest of honor.

Katunzi emphasized that Tanzania’s opportunity to host such a major international event signifies the country’s growing engagement and influence in the development of standards and quality assurance.

“The presence of these delegates will create a unique opportunity to promote locally produced goods and services, which can help manufacturers access international markets, expand trade, and contribute to the sustainable economic growth of our nation,” said Katunzi.

She also noted that the meeting will feature a product exhibition and called on local producers and service providers, including those in the tourism sector, to participate fully, sponsor, and take advantage of the platform to promote their products and services.

The theme of the conference is: “Accelerating Equity in Trade Within the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Through Harmonized Systems and Defined Standards.”

Overall, the event is seen as a vital opportunity for Tanzania to showcase its progress in the field of standards and quality control, as well as to enhance trade cooperation among ARSO member states.
