Tanzania’s rural water agency hailed for implementing 163m/- project

MTWARA: TANZANIA’S Uhuru Torch Race Leader, Mr Ismail Ussi, has congratulated the Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency(RUWASA) for effectively implementing several water projects in Mtwara that ensured reliable and safe water access for communities in the region.
“We (Uhuru Torch race 2025) appreciate the efforts being made by RUWASA in Mtwara, the agency has delighted us,” he said.
Mr Ussi made the statement here after inspecting and laying a foundation stone for a 163m/- water project at Mitanga Ward in Newala District, Mtwara Region.
He said the works on water projects inspected by Uhuru Torch 2025 are of high quality, calling for the residents in Mitanga Ward to safeguard the water projects and their sources to ensure continued access to clean and safe water in the communities.

“I hereby call upon the residents here (Mitanga ward) to safeguard the water project and it’s source because the project is very crucial for providing you with reliable access to water, saving you (residents) time and resource that you spent searching for water in far away from home,” he said.
Mr Ussi also asked RUWASA to speed up works left on the water project as well as training community members in water management practices to ensure long-term sustainability.
RUWASA District Manager in Newala, Mr Nsajigwa Sadiki, said the project in Mitanga has been completed by 75 percent.
Over 9,000 are expected to benefit. The project will be completed in June 2025. The project is facilitated by St. Benedict Referral Hospital Ndada.
