PM vows continued investment in key sectors

MWANZA: THE government has reaffirmed its commitment to addressing key challenges faced by citizens, especially in the education sector through continued investments in the construction of primary and secondary schools.

Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa made the remarks yesterday during his working visit to Mwanza Region, saying that one of the government’s top priorities is ensuring access to quality education for every school-aged child.

“One of our key initiatives is the provision of free primary education for all children,” said Mr Majaliwa.

He further noted that the government is also investing in the construction of dormitories, teachers’ houses and vocational schools, aiming to equip students with practical skills that will enable them to either find employment or start their own businesses after graduation.

Addressing the issue of clean and safe water, the Prime Minister noted ongoing projects, such as those utilising Lake Victoria as a water source that are designed to ensure a reliable supply of water for citizens.

He urged the public to remain patient, noting that these efforts will ultimately improve water access across many regions.

Mr Majaliwa also called on Sengerema District leadership to expedite the completion of a market construction project, which he described as crucial for transforming the area into a major commercial hub and boosting the local economy.

He also instructed Mwanza regional authorities to investigate reports of theft of medical equipment at Sengerema District Hospital.

He stressed the importance of safeguarding public assets, especially medical equipment, which is vital to the delivery of quality healthcare.

On regional security, Mr Majaliwa urged residents to resist incitement by individuals attempting to disrupt peace and unity in the region.

He encouraged public cooperation with authorities to maintain order and stability.

The Prime Minister also underscored the importance of vocational training, encouraging residents to take full advantage of the VETA centre currently under construction in Kwimba District.

“This project, worth approximately 2bn/-, will offer training in various trades and provide youths with marketable skills,” he said.

He also directed Kwimba District authorities to review the teacher deployment process to ensure that schools facing shortages are adequately staffed.

On his part, Minister for Works, Mr Abdallah Ulega, assured residents that the government is in the final stages of contracting a company to upgrade the Sengerema–Nyehunge road to tarmac level, a move expected to significantly improve transportation and regional connectivity.

Meanwhile, Member of Parliament for Buchosa, Mr Eric Shigongo expressed his appreciation to the government for allocating over 80bn/- for development projects in his constituency.

He said the investments, targeting water, education and infrastructure, will significantly raise the standard of living for local communities.

The Prime Minister’s visit also included the laying of the foundation stone for the Kwimba District administrative building, a project valued at 3.45bn/-.

It is expected to improve public service delivery and create a conducive working environment for government employees.
