Tanzania acts tough against contractors who fail to complete projects

DAR ES SALAAM: THE Minister for Works, Abdallah Ulega, has directed the Contractors Registration Board (CRB) to take disciplinary action against contractors who fail to complete projects on time, causing losses and adverse effects to the government and Tanzanian citizens.
Speaking during the opening of the 2025 Stakeholders’ Consultative Meeting for the Construction Sector held in Dar es Salaam, Minister Ulega emphasized the critical role contractors play in advancing the country’s economy and community development.
“When contractors fail to fulfill their responsibilities, they delay the delivery of essential services to the public and cause financial losses to both the government and citizens,” stressed Minister Ulega.
He underscored the importance of professionalism, integrity, and patriotism among contractors and commended several local contractors for successfully completing projects on time and in line with quality standards.
“Ensure that you uphold professionalism and patriotism in executing construction projects by completing them on time and with quality that meets contractual requirements, so that citizens can receive timely and reliable services with value for money,” he said.
Minister Ulega also praised the government for continuing to prioritize local contractors through enabling provisions in the Public Procurement Act of 2023 and its 2024 regulations. These measures aim to empower local contractors to grow and participate in major national projects and to compete in international markets.
