Tanzanians join global youth learning programme in Denmark

DAR ES SALAAM: FIVE young Tanzanians are set to travel to Denmark for an international youth learning programme aimed at enhancing their capacity to drive sustainable development within their communities and beyond.

The group, comprising Hellen Sisya, Erick Mallya, Thabit Ntiyorosa and Genila Hiel, all members of the European Union Youth Sounding Board in Tanzania, alongside Johnson Thomson Daniel, founder of MedPack, attended a pre-departure briefing yesterday hosted by Ambassador Jesper Kammersgaard at the Embassy of Denmark in Dar es Salaam.

The youth will travel to Copenhagen on May 31st this year to participate in the Danida Fellowship Centre Learning Programme titled Empowering Youth to Influence SDG Implementation, running from June 2 to 20th this year.

The initiative brings together members of Danish Embassies’ Youth Sounding Boards and other youth partner organisations across Africa, Asia and Latin America to explore how young people can contribute meaningfully to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

“This programme reflects Denmark’s firm belief that young people are not just future leaders, they are leaders today,” said Ambassador Jesper Kammersgaard.

“The youth should be part of shaping the policies and actions that will define the future of their societies. I am proud to engage with such passionate Tanzanian youth representing their country in this important initiative.” For Thabit Ntiyorosa, one of the selected participants, the opportunity is both personal and transformative.

“This programme is a chance to gain practical tools, global insights, and inspiration to strengthen the work we are already doing back home,” he said.

“I am excited to connect with fellow changemakers from across the world and bring new energy to the sustainable development efforts in Tanzania.”

The learning programme is an initiative under the Danish Africa Strategy ‘Africa’s Century’, which prioritizes stronger dialogue Participants were selected based on their leadership roles in youth engagement, diversity across sectors (public, private, civil society), and a commitment to community impact.

The programme is also an opportunity to foster crossborder networks among youth changemakers.

The Danida Fellowship Centre (DFC), which facilitates the programme, offers learning and research opportunities to partners in Danida-financed development cooperation.

DFC also coordinates the Danida Fellows Network a global community of development professionals with ties to Denmark, committed to translating knowledge into action.
