Dar School advances its education curriculum to suit global-level demand

DAR ES SALAAM: In a bid to align education with the fast-paced advancements and global technological developments, Aga Khan Primary School in Dar es Salaam has introduced a specialized curriculum known as the Primary Years Programme (PYP) for its students.

The program aims to empower learners to effectively respond to global changes and become knowledgeable, skilled, and positively minded global citizens.

Speaking during the PYP exhibition held at the school, Blandina Duwe, the Head Teacher of Aga Khan Primary and Nursery School, said that the program is a curriculum designed to help students understand the current needs of the world. “It’s a curriculum that helps learners grasp what the world demands today and how they can be part of the solution,” she stated.

Duwe emphasized the importance of teaching science and technology in ways that enable students to comprehend how scientific principles work and how they can be used to improve life on Earth. The ultimate goal, she said, is to nurture a mindset that contributes to making the world a better place to live.

Lynette Kyalo, the PYP Coordinator at the school, added that the program is child-friendly and safe, catering to students aged three to twelve years. “PYP helps learners with self-awareness, communication skills, understanding how the world functions, and how to relate with others in their communities,” Kyalo explained.

Students who participated in the program, Aairah Lidenge and Andwele Senkoro, expressed that PYP has helped them gain significant knowledge and build skills that prepare them for the rapidly changing world. They acknowledged the program’s importance in today’s dynamic environment.

The PYP has been implemented at Aga Khan Primary School for approximately eight weeks and is conducted annually as part of the school’s ongoing curriculum, designed to nurture global-minded learners.
