e-Mrejesho nominated for prestigious global ICT award

DODOMA: TANZANIA’s locally developed second version of eMrejesho (eMrejesho V2) system has been nominated to compete for the 2025 World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) Awards.

The WSIS Awards, coordinated by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) which is a United Nations agency, aim to recognize and promote innovative ICT-based projects that contribute to sustainable development around the globe.

eMrejesho V2 has been nominated under the e-Government category (Action Line C7) and is among 360 ICT systems that advanced past the screening stage out of over 1,000 digital project submissions from various countries worldwide.

Last year, the version of the eMrejesho system scooped the United Nations Public Service Innovation Award.

Speaking over the development, e-Government Authority (e-GA) Communications Manager, Ms Subira Kaswaga, confirmed that e-GA recently received official notification of the nomination via email from ITU after eMrejesho was shortlisted for the awards.

E-Govt systems elevate TZ status internationally

She explained that eMrejesho V2 is an enhanced version of a digital platform that uses Artificial Intelligence (AI) to collect, analyze, and provide real-time feedback to citizens regarding the services they receive from government institutions and public agencies.

“Through this platform, citizens have the opportunity to submit opinions, suggest improvements, or report challenges they face in accessing services, and all this is processed swiftly and efficiently using AI technology,” said Ms Subira.

She emphasized that public voting would determine the winners at this stage as he called on Tanzanians and all global ICT development stakeholders to support e-GA by casting their votes before April 30th this year.

“This is the time to show our solidarity as a nation and as part of the African continent. Through your vote, you can help eMrejesho V2 emerge as a winner and showcase our ICT innovation to the world,” she added.

The manager also noted that the winners will be announced at the WSIS 2025 Awards gala, which will take place during the WSIS+20 Forum High-Level Event scheduled to be held in Geneva from July 7 to 11, 2025.

She also noted that the WSIS Awards are among the most prestigious international recognitions in the field of Information and Communication Technology (ICT), and that the selection of eMrejesho V2 is a significant honour for the country.

The eMrejesho system was developed by the e-Government Authority (e-GA) and is overseen by the President’s Office – Public Service Management and Good Governance.
