Prof Janabi to prioritize Abuja Declaration when elected

DAR ES SALAAM: THE aspirant for the position of Director of the World Health Organization (WHO) Africa Region, Professor Mohamed Janabi, said he will make significant efforts to persuade all member countries of the organization in Africa to ensure they implement the Abuja Declaration.

The 2001 Declaration urges African countries that are members of WHO to allocate at least 15 percent of their budgets to the health sector.

While presenting his policies to members of the WHO General Assembly who are preparing to vote for the election of the Director of WHO Africa Region, Professor Janabi explained that he would make efforts to convince member states’ governments to allocate these funds, particularly for the purchase of medicines and the overall improvement of the health sector.
